Some figures

GCI-UICP is the European mechanical contractors' association representing the interests of 180,000 heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing contractors from 23 European countries as well as Australia , Canada and the USA . Member businesses provide about 1,4m highly qualified jobs and generate a total turnover of Euro 140 billon.

GCI-UICP was founded in 2001, when GCI and UICP decided to join their forces and form a unique European association for mechanical contractors. GCI's history goes back to 1935, while UICP was established in 1956.

Our mission: Building comfort efficiently

People spend about 97 % of a day in buildings. Indoor climate and water supply therefore belong to the main features determining indoor comfort.

On the other hand, more than 40 % of the final energy consumption in Europe is used for heating needs of buildings and for domestic hot water production. Hence, technical building systems have become a priority area to reduce the use of traditional energy sources.

GCI-UICP members are key players in this area. They

Install and maintain heating, ventilation, air conditioning and plumbing systems in buildings;

Provide energy advice services to end-users and implement energy efficiency measures;

Provide advice on renewable energy systems and install and maintain solar thermal, heat pump, biomass heating and photovoltaic systems;
Become increasingly involved in the provision of energy services, including performance contracting;
Carry out energy audits and, in a number of countries, issue energy passports for buildings in the framework of the Energy performance of buildings directive.

Goals

GCI-UICP's principle aims are

To promote and protect the interests of mechanical contractors at European level;

To influence the content of European legislation and technical standards;
To stimulate the discussion between members and develop solutions to common problems;
To strive towards highest competence levels of operators in the sector;
To inform national member associations about relevant European developments;
To allow international exchange of ideas and information.

CEETB - joint umbrella body of specialist building contractors

In 1976, GCI, UICP and the European association of electrical contractors, AIE created a joint European specialist engineering contractors association - the CEETB.

The CEETB deals with all topics of common interest including

•  The opening of energy markets;
•  Energy efficiency and renewable sources of energy;
•  Certain environmental topics and
•  Contractual matters.
